Universal Aluminium Endbells for C Can Motors
Universal Aluminium Endbells for C Can Motors
Until now obtaining aluminium endbells to fit specific C can motors has been a nightmare, with availability & quality patchy to say the least.
Due to customer demand, AB Slotsport has produced a “Universal” aluminium endbell in the UK for C can motors, which fits all known C cans.
The AB Endbell has full height side flanges and a top sub - flange which also allows it’s use in the new 3 screw Set Ups from Red Fox.
So now the choice of which can to use in G12 Eurosport and OG12 racing is up to you! No longer dictated by what is available to fit, you can use your favourite set - up!
Above are 3 typical modern C cans, from left to right;- TWP / Kamen, Red Fox, RJR. All have different mount holes to locate the can. Now one endbell fits all.

Aluminium endbells improve the performance of Can motors in a number of ways.
1) A correctly machined aluminium endbell will fit the motor can accurately and will not distort with heat, ensuring premium brush alignment and contact. It is also less likely to sustain damage in race impacts.
2) Aluminium is a far better conductor of heat than plastic and therefore helps to transmit the heat from the brush gear more effectively, allowing the com, brushes and consequently the motor to run cooler. This not only aids performance, but also ensures the motor runs better, longer, between rebuilds.

Installation tips;-

Aluminium endbells are Anodised, this is what gives them their insulation and allows you to mount hardware without shorting out. Some endbells are anodised with just a standard, cosmetic coating which breaks down rapidly and causes shorts. The AB endbell is Hard anodised for reliability and hard wear.

1) Never scratch the face of the endbell and damage the anodised coating.
2) Always use a full set of hardware (including the backplates) this prevents motor brushes running directly on the anodising and causing erosion of the surface.
3) Always ensure the hardware backplates are flat and burr free so thay willnot damage the surface when screwed on.
4) Always use anodised aluminium 0/80 screws to attach the hardware to the endbell and use insulators (such as Slick 7) under the screw heads of all 4 screws. Never over tighten and use loctite to ensure a perfect location, once the hardware is perfectly located.
5) Mark the position of the holes in the flange with a permanent pen and then carefully remove the anodising with a Dremel in the area of the flange only where you intend to drill. Hard anodising will blunt your drill bit just by touching it!
6) You will find the bore for the ballrace is a perfect, light interference fit and a light tap will locate the ballrace firmly in its mount. There should be no need to use an adhesive.
7) The perfect way to fit the endbell to the can is with anodised screws, the same as the hardware. This means drilling and tapping the endbell flange. This is a simple operation and taps are available at AB for this purpose.
9) Use the can as a template to drill the flanges.
10) If you are a “weight junky” it is possible to remove any portions of the mounting flange which are no required with a Dremel.
